Newmarket Real Tennis Club

Newmarket Real Tennis Club Ltd is one of the few remaining Real Tennis clubs in the UK. Real Tennis is the original racquet sport from which the modern game of lawn tennis, or tennis, is descended. There are still a number of active Real tennis club in the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States and France.

 

Henry VIII would still recognise Real Tennis as it is played today more than 500 years after he played at Hampton Court – where the game is still played!

 

Social Play

Real tennis is one of a few sports which uses handicaps. This means it’s a superb game for all ages and all abilities. Courts are available for either singles or doubles in one hour sessions. The professionals will organise opponents of a suitable standard if required. However, you can bring your own friends to play against, if you so wish.

 

Coaching

Andrew Knibbs is the Head Professional and he is available for private or group coaching session and is also responsible for the club’s match programme.

 

Competitive Tennis

At the heart of real tennis is a competitive spirit, therefore the club offers a range of competitions throughout the year. In addition to external matches, the club holds regular tournaments where members compete in a friendly environment.

 

Membership

Newmarket Real Tennis Club offers a number of membership options and so caters to all ages and standards. That’s the beauty of Real Tennis, you can be 8 or 80 and enjoy playing!
