Petworth House Tennis Court
With a history dating back to 1872, Petworth House Tennis Court is a real tennis club situated in Petworth, West Sussex. Real Tennis, sometimes known as Royal Tennis is a fascinating indoor racket sport.
Real tennis is considered to be the original Tudor game, from which lawn tennis has evolved. Henry VIII would recognise a game of real tennis if he saw it today: it has changed little since he enjoyed it.
Today, only a small number of active courts still remain in the United Kingdom, Australia, United States and France. So, when you play at Petworth House Tennis Court, you are enjoying a game, few do and are part of the game’s long history.
While members can book the court for their own games, the pros are on hand should you need help finding a suitable opponent.
The club has two full professionals who continue to build the junior programme as well as provide lessons to adults.
The professionals arrange a wide range of tournaments to suit all playing standards. Members also have the chance to compete in local and national competitions.
New members are always welcome at Petworth House Tennis Court, particularly youngsters ages 12 to 21. So, why not give the professionals a call and arrange a lesson to try the game.
