Bridgwater Lawn Tennis Club
Established on the banks of the Bridgwater canal in the centre of the town in about 1895, Bridgwater Lawn Tennis Club has a rich history.
Originally known as the Trinity Lawn Tennis Club it had one grass court and club rules limited membership to 25. Before the First World War it acquired a second court, created a ‘country membership’. The standard of tennis attracted members from Bishops Lydeard who push-biked over the Quantocks over an evening – and home again! Later known as the ‘Mid-Somerset’ it became the Bridgwater Lawn Tennis Club during the sixties. The club moved to the present location in 1993.
Thursday nights are the main weekly club session. Taking place all year round, these sessions provide an excellent opportunity to play tennis in a friendly environment. Members are free to book courts for their own use around the club’s programme.
Over the years, Bridgwater Lawn Tennis Club has built up a thriving Junior Membership and is proud of the high standard of coaching offered. Individual coaching is also available at reasonable rates.
Because Bridgwater Lawn Tennis Club has been very successful in local leagues over the years, the club is always on the look out for more match players. Teams currently compete in the North Somerset League. And among its members are European Champions in the Veteran Ladies 50’s group. In addition to league play, the club holds a number of tournaments each year. Therefore, all standard of match play are catered for.
