Knowle and Dorridge Racquets Club
Founded in 1908, Knowle and Dorridge Racquets Club originally started as a Tennis club only, with 6 courts and a modest clubhouse. However, in the early 1960’s a Squash court was added. A second court followed in the 1970’s. Racketball, which is played on the Squash courts was well established by 1995. There are now more players of Racketball than Squash.
Today, the club offers an exciting programme for all three sport as well as a number of social events.
The club offers social tennis on a Tuesday evening throughout the year. As well as on Saturday afternoons, which always ends with tea and cake! There’s a junior club night on a Friday. Outside these sessions, members are welcome to enjoy playing on free courts.
The club has a resident tennis coach who is available to provide coaching throughout the club. There is also an assistant coach who provides coaching for mini tennis, cardio tennis and the schools’ programme.
If you are interested in playing team tennis, currently the club competes with a number of men, ladies and mixed tennis teams. There are teams in the Birmingham leagues, Coventry league and other local competitions. There are also a junior boys team, junior girls team and a mixed team playing in the Metropolitan summer league.
The club also hosts an annual tournament in June each year. As well as several other social day tournaments and other trophy mixed doubles events. There are several events for juniors including an annual tournament and internal and external league matches.
You can join Knowle and Dorridge Racquets Club to play tennis or squash and racketball or can play all three sports at a greatly reduced rate. There are currently no joining fees, so becoming a member is even more affordable! So whatever your age, ability or goals, there’s a membership package for you.
