Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club
Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club is the premier tennis club in South Wales. The club is often referred to as The Castle Club, thanks to it proximity to Cardiff Castle. Originally known as “The Racquet Club”, members played on courts in Westgate Street, which today is now the Welsh Rugby Union souvenir shop! Ensuring the club’s future, the Marquis of Bute in 1947 granted the club a 999 year lease. Today, the club promotes an active year round programme with regular club nights, extensive coaching and one of the country’s largest competitive calenders.
There are regular club mix-ins sessions which are organised by the Head Coach and run a Friday evening from April onwards each year. These sessions continue on a more informal basis throughout the Autumn/Winter months. Members can easily book a court for their own use outside the club’s programme.
The coaching team offer a comprehensive programmes of group sessions and individual lessons. This ensure that all ages and standards can grow and develop their tennis skills at the club. Kids also benefit from a number of holiday camps which run throughout the year.
Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club really enjoys competitive play! Some might say it’s in the club’s DNA! In terms of external competitions, 36 teams compete in local and national leagues. The club also runs a number of friendly American Style tournaments throughout the Summer months. As well as a club box league and annual club championship. Therefore, all ages and standard have at least one competitive opportunity at the club.
A broad range of membership categories are available at Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club. These cater to a wide range of local tennis players. Visitors are also welcome at the club.
The clubhouse contains a superb bar which serves drinks and food six days a week and provides the perfect spot to relax or catch up with friends. The club house is also available for hire.
